Minister Mbalula pays tribute to General Pitso Mfazi. In his tribute titled “The Last Radio Call” he makes note of these attributes: “he was the sharpest arrow of the spear of the nation”. In his tribute the Minister sketches the analogy of a soldier’s last radio call before his end.

Passing of Sindile Christopher Mfazi: Deputy National Police Commissioner of SAPS and Former Commander of Mkhonto Wesizwe

On the 8th of July 2021 we slept to the heart-breaking news of the passing of our father and dear husband to our mother, Commander Sindile Christopher Mfazi. A Deputy National Police Commissioner of the South Africa Police Service, a former Commander of Mkhonto Wesizwe. His passing represents a great misfortune for the country and in particular, the security clusters of this great nation. His noteworthy contributions to our history of freedom and liberation cannot go unnoticed. He was one of the extraordinary generation of leaders who were now serving government at its highest level. The legacy of his generation of South African leadership is unique. In his lifetime he was once a fugitive of the South Africa Police Security Branch who sought him for his political involvement with the African National Congress. In democratic South Africa he was challenged with creating a South African Police that served its people and transformed an environment that once considered him its enemy. It is our sincere hope that South Africa’s younger generations will see example in Sindile Christopher Mfazi and realize that nothing ever created great was achieved over night. Sindile Christopher Mfazi died of Covid19 complications on the 08th of July 2021. He exemplified the practice of servant-leadership and we will sorely miss him. We are immensely grateful for his life and shall cherish all the moments he shared with us.
