Chapter 1
Born in Mdantsane, East London
Sindile Christopher “Pitso” Mfazi was born on 5 May 1962 in Mdantsane, East London — a township in the Eastern Cape that became a crucible of resistance against apartheid. The son of Tat’u Mthetheleli Hubert and Lawukazi Deborah Mfazi, he grew up in a family of seven children, alongside siblings Nontembiso, Lulama, Ntsikelelo, Mbulelo, Sindiswa, and Nompumelelo. From an early age, the injustices of apartheid South Africa shaped his worldview and kindled a fierce determination for justice that would define his life.
Assassinated.
On Active Duty.
On the floor of South Africa's Parliament, Pilasande Dotyeni — a former Crime Intelligence colleague who served alongside General Mfazi — issued a May-Day call that shook the nation. What he revealed confirmed what the family had known from the moment Pitso died: this was not Covid. This was murder.

In this parliamentary address, Dotyeni delivered a May-Day call — the last radio transmission of a soldier in mortal danger — demanding an independent investigation into the general's assassination and the deliberate suppression of his murder docket.
May-Day, May-Day — soldier is down. Pitso is down.

Thanksgiving Speech
Delivered by Adv. Lindela Mfazi — on behalf of the Mfazi Family
This is a vote of thanks on behalf of the family of Mfazi, but it is also a vote of thanks on behalf of those who were trained in the trenches by u-Pitso in Umkonto we Sizwe. I am here on your behalf to plead farewell and to thank him and to thank you for the road travelled.
On the eve of the death of Martin Luther King, he spoke passionately of the struggle of King David to unite God's people and to move them towards their destiny. Life is a long and continuous story of setting out to unite the people but not being able to finish it, said Martin Luther King.
Today, as we mourn the death of this unsung hero Sindile Christopher Mfazi, fondly known by those close to him as u-Pitso, he dreamt of the day this country shall get out of the bosom of slavery, the long nights of injustice, in some way his heart's desire to get to the promised land expressed itself against injustices to his death bed.
So often as he worked also within the ANC to build the temple of peace, often times he was discouraged by some within the ranks of this great liberation movement who have discretely drank the poisoned chalice of the cup of corruption.
